CURRICULUM FOLLOWED – CBCS curriculum of University of Calcutta where the ENGA and ENGG programmes of study are patterned into a cluster of six semesters.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION– ENGLISH
MODE OF TEACHING– CLASSROOM TEACHING, VIRTUAL TEACHING and FLIPPED CLASSROOM TEACHING.
The faculty is involved in teaching the students (i) directly in classrooms, (ii) through virtual mode using Google Meet, Skype etc. and(iii) through flipped classroom using Google Classroom and Smart Classroom.
LIBRARY– The English library is located in the central library of the college. It has approximately 1000 text books and reference books. The library also has a seminal library constituting 70 books of the UGC-MRP (2010-2012) grant awarded to Prof. Swati Mustaphi. The library has access to e-resources like INFLIBNET, e-journals, youtube, E-PG PATHSALA etc. necessary for the teaching-learning process.
SKILLS IMPARTED– The skills taught to students include:
(i) Linguistic skills- Business English, translation studies, Communicative English.
(ii) Literary skills – developing analytical and critical ability to analyse literary texts.
(iii) Technical skills – students are trained to use Microsoft and Google software with their own devices so as to learn the texts in the syllabus, to apply PowerPoint presentations in their class presentations and to appear for final examinations using Google Forms.
(iv) Academic writing skills- students are taught to write term papers modelled on MLA stylesheet.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES – the students have engaged themselves in preparing the departmental wall magazine MISCELLANEA each year.They have made short speech presentations on topics related to the curriculum, they have prepared e-posters and have made paper presentations based on the syllabus.
PUBLICATIONS– the faculty regularly publishes in seminar/ conference proceedings, books and journals.
