Bengali department was established in 1985 with Bengali pass course only. From the academic year 1998-99, the department received permission for teaching Honours course in Bengali. Since then Bengali Pass/General and Honours courses have been continuing in the college.
Prof. Keshab Chandra Khanra joined the vacant substantive post of Bengali on 10th December 1985. Smt. Supta Pathak also joined the department as a part time teacher in 1985. Dr. Mantu Biswas joined as an assistant lecturer of the department in 2005. Subhadip Tripathy joined as guest lecturer in the department in October 2018 and recognized as SACT-1 since January 2020. Smt. Supta Pathak retired on 31 July 2020. At present Bengali department running with three faculty members.
Teaching plan are made at the very beginning of the each academic session, distributing the prescribed syllabus among the faculty members for smooth function of the teaching learning system of the department. Department has a mentoring system whereby progression of the students is analyzed at regular intervals through class test and asking questions after discussion of the topics. For academic improvement of the students, continuous efforts are rendered to provide students with text and reference books from the central library of the college. Notes and model question-answers are given to the students regularly. Learners are inspired to read literature related to their syllabus at random. So that they can enrich their outlook. Bengali department has a plan to open seminal library in near future to support the growing demands for books.
Department also takes initiative to engaged students with co-curricular activities, such as songs, dance, debate, extempore etc. Educational tour is also arranged time to time with the active support of college authority and faculty members with the students. Wall magazine is published by the department and students are inspired to write in the college magazine also.
From very beginning of introducing the CBCS system in 2018, workshop was arranged to acquaint the students with the new system – Internal, Tutorial and Theory Examination pattern and they are provided with model question-answers for the purpose. All faculty members remain active for betterment of the students. Under the initiative of faculty members the department has organized UGC sponsored State / National level seminars. Students also take part in the seminar to enrich themselves.
Since March 2020, in the pandemic situation of COVID 19 students are inspired to join classes through Google classroom / Google meet for online lectures and Notes using ICT instruments. Department also organized faculty exchange programme with other colleges at this time. Webinars also arranged by the department in this period.
