About The Department

The college was established after the long-cherished dream of the local people of Santragachi, Howrah in 1985 affiliated to Calcutta University as a co-educational degree college at Dharmatala in Ramrajatala. The initiative was taken by the then local MLA Sri Satyen Ghosh and some eminent persons of the area. A trustee was found in order to set up a degree college and affiliation was given by the Calcutta University to fulfill the purpose. On 22nd September 1985, the college started its journey with five subjects Bengali, English, History, Philosophy and Education as pass course. So Bengali department was established in 1985. From the academic year 1998-99, we received permission for teaching honours course in Bengali. Since then Bengali Pass/General and Honours courses have been continuing in the college.
